If you can remember back to your school days, the teacher used to say "pay attention as I might ask you some questions". This is what I should have done, as Barry, our Runs captain, at the Tuesday night club meeting after the run, asked me to write the club report for the day, so apologies for the lack of names, and bikes rode, perhaps our Editor can add them in.
Sunday, depending on what weather forecast you watched, some gave heavy rain for the day, we rode up from Ashford in a bit of light rain. By Maidstone it had rained quite heavy, and the roads were wet, at the meeting place, the Moat Hotel, it was only a bit misty. As we rode South to Brighton the weather was improving all the time, with the sun appearing whilst we were at the sea front, but it did rain when we were five miles from home again.
Eight bikes, but only three Triumphs! were on the run, with Barry and Janneane leading as they had planned a very scenic route via Hildenborough, Penshurst, Groombridge, and to the sea front via Rottingdean, missing out Brighton centre, which was good as it meant no M or A23. I believe a few other members had rode down early to see the Ace café bikes arrive. We were in the middle, with Andy on his new Thunderbird Sport behind us.
The show itself was much bigger than I expected, that was probably because the Sky Discovery Channel, American Chopper, had stands, and were filming there. Was it better for it?, for my money no, as they seemed to take over the show in certain areas, maybe the Ace café will benefit from the publicity, their web site was stating 200,000 visitors and 10,000 bikes, mmm... We did walk up to the back of the chopper show stands, for a look through the fencing, as the queue to get in the stands was half a mile long. Our chairman who, having walked enough, caught the train back to the pier, we walked back to have a look at the trade stands, but did not spend any money.
We stayed to see both bands which were quite good if you like good old rock and roll, before riding home via the coast road to Hastings and Ashford.
