A group of six bikes set of at 10 a.m. including Brenda and Steve Reed, Bev and Les Spacey, Colin Cherry and Daniel, myself and Barry and Andy who had made it back from the Isle of Wight the day before. The weather predictions were not favourable and after about half an hour we decided to stop and don waterproof gear and change dark visors. From Godstone the rain gradually got worse and we made our way valiantly on towards Guildford where we stopped at the highest point of our journey, in a raincloud, to take refreshments and re-assess the journey.
While English breakfast was being consumed it was decided to abandon the trip to Popham and make our way back. Colin, Les and Steve headed off first while Barry and I headed back with Andy who was sporting an open face crash helmet, as ever, and was looking a little red in the face when we left him at Sevenoaks to make his way back to Farningham. Arrived home somewhat soaked but found that only my boots had leaked (or should I say flooded) and gloves (but heated grips helped here). Barry's waterproof boots had let a small amount of water in on a couple of toes and gloves also.
Thanks to everyone who turned up, I think we all agreed it was still better than going to Hastings. I understand that the rain reached there about lunchtime and a lot of folk did not have waterproofs - oops.
