When I said that I wouldnt mind going to the AGM at Meriden I didn't expect Andy and Lee Adie to say immediately "Oh good, we won't bother going then." I picked up Tom, Gwen and Paul from Tom's house at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and we were soon on our way up the M25 and M1 to Meriden. As we were making good time, we stopped for a coffee, (and fags for my passengers). This proved to be a mistake as we had to queue for ages for a coffee which made our arrival at the AGM a little late: they had just started as we arrived.
The introductions, approval of minutes and elections went smoothly and our very own Heather Mead was elected as a BMF representative - yes, she had asked to be nominated. The winners of the various awards were announced and yes, we were awarded the British Guiana Trophy yet again. Tom collected the shield and I took a photo.
During the dinner break I had a chat to Ian Kay, the guy who purchased my old TR6 Trophy / Hedingham outfit from me some two years ago. The whole outfit has now been professionally rebuilt and looks brilliant; I took more photos.
After the break the proposals and motions were discussed, the most contentious being the motion to dispense with the special general meetings of the TOMCC, the reason being that nobody was turning up to them! After some discussion, the motion was withdrawn and everyone said that they would try and attend the meetings. It looks like most other branches are as enthusiastic as we are.
The meeting closed just after 3.00pm and as the bar closed at 3.00pm we retraced our steps back to sunny Dartford. We didn't stop on the way back, I didn't want to wake anybody up!
