I missed this rally last year due to technical problems, so I was not going to miss it this year. After asking around if any one wanted to join me, Lee and Andy agreed to come. When Chris Biggs found out we were going he also was keen to go and Phil Loom also wanted to come along. We all wanted to check this rally out as next year it is their 25th rally and our club has been invited to celebrate with them.
We all met up on Friday at 7.30am at the Esso station before Dartford Tunnel to begin our journey to Harwich to catch the ferry at 10.40am. We arrived although not before a slight detour up a slip road just to confuse everyone? After settling down to the four hour ferry crossing Phil, Chris and myself decided to go into the restaurant to check out "all you can eat" for £9.50. After 2 dinners,5 desserts, cheese & biscuits (and 3 hours later) we left the restaurant all feeling rather "full".
The weather was very hot and the roads busy as it was a Bank Holiday in Holland. It was just as well we all followed Jim (Birmingham & Wolves Branch) whom we met up with on the ferry. Nearing the rally site town we were all a bit unsure exactly where the camp site was so we followed two old Triumphs that seemed to know where to go?? Luckily they were not just going home! The camp site was excellent with full amenities our welcome could not have been warmer.
Most of the bikes there were all old Triumphs well ridden. On Friday there was a band which came on very late which by that time we had our fill of beer and on Saturday they had a run laid on although only Phil & Andy went on because the rest of us were a bit under the weather. After a while our heads cleared and we visited a local fete at a windmill. In the evening there was another band just as late as Friday night. Also the locals did a burn out on the dance floor. Then they had awards - did I mention I got "Best Motor"? As you can imagine I had a great weekend. On Sunday after a great breakfast we left in good weather, however this soon changed and the rain started to flow. A great Rally which I intend to return to next year for their 25th Anniversary. Anyone else interested?
